FAQs

What is a virtual run?
A virtual run allows participants to complete the race at their convenience - anytime and anywhere. You may run or walk the race distance at your own pace. You choose your own race day during the race period, your own starting time and your own course, whether it’s in your community, on a treadmill or at a park.

How does the Digicel Virtual 5K Run for Special Needs work?

Register and pay online by October 25. Once your registration is processed (but not before October 1), you’ll receive an email with your personalized virtual bib along with a Digicel 5K D’Music playlist. Then, simply complete the 5K distance any day and anywhere during the race period of October 1 - 31. Remember to record your time, then submit it using the results submission link provided in your registration e-package. Look out for your finisher certificate, signed by Jamaican Olympians and Digicel ambassadors: Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Briana Williams. Participants will also receive a commemorative finisher medal, which will be mailed 3 - 6 weeks post-race. Make sure to follow us on social media to receive training tips, to learn about our beneficiaries, and more.

Who can register?
Every one – of all ages and abilities – is invited to participate! From brand-new runners to experienced 5K participants and everyone in between, so sign up the whole family and be active together while supporting a noble cause. Of course, please gauge your fitness level to ensure that you are able to complete the distance. Participants take part in the virtual run on their own responsibility (or on the responsibility of a parent/guardian in the case of a minor).

What do I get for registering?
As a registered participant who pay the donation fee, you will receive a downloadable race bib, a downloadable finisher certificate, a commemorative finisher medal along with a Digicel 5K D’Music playlist to keep you moving and grooving as you prepare for your 5K run, walk or wheel. Most importantly, you will be making a positive impact on the lives of people with Special Needs.

Are manual registrations accepted?
No manual entries will be accepted. If you do not have access to a credit card or a bank card with credit card features, we suggest you sign up for the Sagicor Bank MyCash MasterCard which can be used to pay for your online registration. Visit www.mycashjamaica.com or contact (888) 724-4267 for more information.

I am not a runner, can walkers participate?
Of course! We love our walkers, and we welcome anyone who wants to join in supporting our Special Needs community while staying healthy and fit.

I have a disability, how can I participate?
The Digicel 5K welcomes persons of all abilities – run, walk, or wheel with us all October. We encourage you, your friends, family members and Special Needs organisations to participate.

Will I get a shirt?
We are not providing a shirt this year.

Where can I run my virtual race?
You can complete the race anywhere that’s convenient to you during the month of October; whether it’s a 5K course in your community, on a treadmill at the gym, at a park, or at a track. You choose your own route for the virtual event. There are many apps you can download on your smartphone to map out a 5K route. If you don’t have a route in mind and you’re in Jamaica, visit our website for suggested routes you can choose from. Whatever route you decide, we ask that you stay safe and healthy when you do your virtual race. Do remember to follow all safety measures and ordinances laid out by the government regarding COVID-19.

How do I track my distance and record my time?
There are many apps you can download on your smartphone for free to track your distance and time. You can also use other smart devices that are available to you. After registering, you will receive an email with a unique link to submit your time. Please do not share the link with anyone. At the end of the race period, all results will be listed on our website for public viewing. We ask all participants to uphold the spirit of honest racing by running the full 5K distance and reporting their accurate time.

Can I run the distance across multiple days?
We encourage you to run the 5K distance (3.1 miles) in one day and at one time just like you would if participating in the physical event. As you join in on the virtual run, we encourage you to stay safe and healthy when you do your virtual race.

Will there be awards for the virtual run?
We will not be offering awards or prizes for this year’s Digicel 5K.

Should I capture my virtual run with pictures and videos?
Yes! Inspire others by letting them know why you are supporting Special Needs by sharing your post-race pictures and videos on our social media platforms using the hashtags #Digicel5K, #ICanForSpecialNeeds and tagging @DigicelJamaica.

I am not located in Jamaica, can I still participate?
Absolutely! A virtual run is the perfect opportunity to join in and contribute to the cause!
