Running Events Jamaica is Jamaica’s premier race management company created to promote the value of a healthy lifestyle through running for Jamaica’s populace and to assist organisations to execute their road race event of international standards using cutting edge technology, all while fundraising for charitable and noble causes.

Running Events Jamaica (REJ) connects communities, fosters national pride in health and exercise, and builds hope for underserved citizens, organisations and services. REJ seeks to promote health programmes geared towards improving the health, fitness and well-being of people from all socio-economic backgrounds in Jamaica. Our events help to raise much needed funds and awareness for worthy causes in education, health care, special needs, youth development, rehabilitation of the mentally ill, assistance for the homeless and so much more.

Over the years, REJ has developed an excellent reputation for runner care, delivered by a cadre of committed team of officials and volunteers. Our team is passionate about the sport of running and road racing, and take great pride in the efficient, professional, supportive, open and honest relationships with participants, partners, sponsors, communities and organisations.

Running Events Jamaica was winner of the 2016 Gleaner Honour Award in the category of Health and Wellness for our contribution to the emergence of a culture of running and healthy lifestyles in Jamaica.

Leadership

At the helm of Running Events Jamaica is Alfred “Frano” Francis, O.D.

Frano’s passion for long-distance running was ignited when he was a member of his Kingston College high school track and field team, where he participated in the 400m event at the ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) and the international Penn Relays.

He is a founding member and past president of the Jamdammers Running Club of Kingston, the island’s leading running club which celebrated 25 years in 2020 while their signature event, Reggae Marathon, celebrated 20 years. The Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K is Jamaica’s premier international marathon event and has been included numerous times in the world’s top ten marathon events listing. Frano has been race director of this event since its inception.

Frano also served as an executive member of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association for over 15 years and as director of its Youth Development Programme was an integral part in developing the talents of junior athletes such as Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, etc.

Frano has largely been credited with the development and proliferation of road races throughout Jamaica and in 2014, was awarded the national honour of the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer for his contribution to sports, especially track and field.
