European Union - Jamaica 5K

 

The Delegation of the European Union to Jamaica will host its first ‘European Union - Jamaica 5K’ on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 6:30 am in downtown Kingston, with the aim of increasing public awareness of the partnership between the European Union and Jamaica to jointly tackle important challenges.

The first EU-JA 5K will be held under the theme 'All Together Against Crime and Violence' and will showcase the EU’s support to Jamaica’s Citizen Security Programme. The race will also highlight downtown Kingston's rich cultural heritage, with sections of the race route encompassing the city’s art walk and coastal boardwalk, with music along the course.

There will be entertainment and T-shirts for participants, as well as medals for the first 2,000 finishers.


Registration

Follow the steps below to register for the EU-JA 5K.

Registration is open to all individuals and teams - corporate, clubs, church groups, and family teams.

Additional registrations are being accepted up to Friday, March 10. However, please note there is no guarantee you'll receive a race T-shirt in your packet. THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.


Contribution

The contribution is $2,000 per person for individuals and teams. Kindly note: There is no guarantee you'll receive a T-shirt in your packet. Shirt sizes will be distributed on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.

Entries are neither refundable nor transferable, and name changes are not allowed.

Packet Pick-Up

Race packages will be ready for pick-up from the Office of the Delegation of The European Union to Jamaica, 8A Fairway Avenue, Kingston 5 on Friday, March 10 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, or on Saturday, March 11 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. THERE IS NO NUMBER PICK-UP ON RACE DAY.

Each entrant will receive a bib with an embedded timing chip that will provide your personal time from start to finish. You must cross the timing mats at the start and finish lines in order to get a race time. Your bib number will be labeled with your name and marked for the event you entered, and must be pinned to the front of your shirt. You must wear the bib encoded with your information. DO NOT SWITCH OR GIVE YOUR BIB TO ANYONE. Switching of race events is NOT allowed once race registration is closed.

Each participant is responsible for knowing and complying with all the official rules and regulations. Failure to comply with the rules of the event will subject you to disqualification.

Route

The backdrop for the EU-JA 5K is the scenic corridor of Downtown Kingston. The staging area for the event is the parking lot of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade at the corner of Port Royal Street and Hanover Street.

The 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) road race starts at the corner of Port Royal Street and George’s Lane, then left onto Duke Street, continues onto Ocean Boulevard, then onto Pechon Street, right onto Harbour Street, then left onto King Street, right onto Water Lane, right onto East Street, left onto Harbour Street, then proceed onto Michael Manley Boulevard, make a U-turn at Paradise Street to return along Michael Manley Boulevard, then onto Port Royal Street, to finish at the corner of Port Royal Street and Hanover Street.
