Digicel 5K For Special Needs

The Digicel 5K Run for Special Needs on Saturday, October 5, 2019 offers you the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of people with Special Needs while running, walking and "fun-ing" through the streets of Downtown Kingston. Starting at 7:00pm, Jamaica's first-ever night run sets in motion an electrifying evening of live action and entertainment - all with a goal to raise funds and increase awareness for Special Needs.

With over 12,000 entrants last year, the Digicel 5K raised $10m, which was donated to special needs institutions such as the Jamaica Association on Intellectual Disabilities, Early Stimulation Plus, Community Based Rehabilitation Jamaica, Jamaica Autism Support Association, Jamaica Society for the Blind, Jamaica Down's Syndrome Foundation, Promise Learning Centre and Montego Bay Autism Centre.

With YOUR help, these organisations can continue to do exceptional work for those with Special Needs. Let us play it forward by raising funds to support and improve the essential services they provide to this underserved community.

Featuring MYLAPS BibTag timing, participants will be treated to premium runner care and special post-race activities.

Digicel 5K for Special Needs

Lateness Will Cost You

The Wheelchair race starts at 7:00pm, the Run + Fun races at 7:05pm, followed by the Walk race at 7:15pm.

The Digicel 5K is timed using the MYLAPS BibTag timing system, featuring the ThinTag.

Do not bend or fold your race bib as this may damage the chip, which will affect your race time. You must cross the mats at the start and finish in order to get an accurate race time. The number one complaint, "I didn't get a chip time" is solved by, not covering your bib at race start and also, starting/stopping your watch, and not jamming up close to others while crossing the timing mats at the finish line. Our Chip Timing Guidelines will tell you more.

Avoid Traffic Congestion

Arrive in Downtown before 6:00pm using any of the easy access corridors via Church Street, East Street, South Camp Road and Marcus Garvey Drive. The nine (9) secured parking lots and staging area at the rear of the Digicel building on Port Royal Street open at 4:00pm with amusement and other activities including the popular pre-race aerobic warm-up at 6:25pm.

If you wish to leave immediately after finishing your race before the roads reopen at 8:30pm, we suggest you park at either the Myers, Fletcher & Gordon lots, the Old Fisheries Complex or at the Downtown Transport Center.

Traffic Advisory

All roads leading to the race route and staging area will be closed to vehicular traffic between 6:30pm and 8:30pm. Parking is not permitted along the race route and on the streets in and around the staging area. The Digicel 5K starts on Ocean Boulevard and loops through Downtown Kingston before finishing on Port Royal Street.

Staging Area Access

The race staging area will only be accessible to registered participants. If you plan to come with a spouse, friend, child or support crew, they will need special supporter armbands. Contribution is $500 - available for purchase when collecting your race packet. NO BIB or SUPPORTER ARMBAND = NO ENTRY.

Race Day Eats

Have a good breakfast, a lighter lunch and a pre-race snack at 5:00pm allowing 2 hours for digestion. Start hydrating from the day before and throughout race day. Be sure to drink 8ozs of water at least 20 minutes before the start and refuel at the two hydration stations along the route.

For Your Safety

Despite having a race-ready medical team in place, we sincerely wish to keep them idle. As always, please run within yourself and listen to your body. Should you feel any discomfort during the race, go to the nearest aid station or to the nearest course marshal and ask for assistance.
In case of emergency, PLEASE CALL (876) 351-6956 for immediate assistance. This number is also printed on your race bib.

After-Party

In true Digicel style, the post-race activities will feature live entertainment and lots of prizes, surprises and giveaways.
